Pathways to Practice Mentor/Intern Program
Our Pathways to Practice program connects BIPOC students and interns with mentors who look like them and are professionals in the mental health and wellness fields. This program provides essential guidance, real-world experience, and career development opportunities. Through mentorship and hands-on training, participants are empowered to pursue fulfilling careers while learning from professionals who understand their lived experiences.
Become a Mentor
Through this mentorship program, we aim to create more equity in the profession by supporting and guiding BIPOC students as they navigate their educational and professional journeys. By providing these interns with insights into the mental health profession, including academic requirements, professional experiences, the realities of running or working in a practice, and the various ways they can apply their education outside of traditional practice settings, we are helping create a new generation of culturally responsive mental health professionals. These professionals will be better equipped to meet the needs of diverse communities, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and effective mental health care system.
As a mentor, you will play a crucial role in shaping the professional development of aspiring mental health professionals. Your responsibilities may include:
Guidance and Support
Offer advice on academic paths, career choices, and professional development in the mental health field.
Sharing Personal Experiences
Provide insights into your journey, including challenges faced, lessons learned, and successes achieved.
Career Advice
Discuss the realities of working in mental health, including day-to-day operations, client interaction, and managing a private practice.
Q&A Sessions
Be available to answer questions related to mental health practices, therapy techniques, and industry trends.
Resource Sharing
Provide recommendations for reading materials, workshops, certifications, or other professional development resources.
